K2 FASTWAVE Software


The K2 software is the acquisition software designed to work with the IDS DAD FastWave control unit (single or multi-channel) and is included in the DAD package.

The K2 FastWave is able to support the acquisition of up to 8 antennas connected in chain and is able to show two Radargrams simultaneously on the screen in real time during the acquisition phase. The software comes with comprehensive tools to customize the acquisition parameters and calibrate the signal of every acquisition channel.

From the initial interface the operator can estimate the propagation velocity as well as modify many other parameters. K2 FastWave is also able to continuously monitor the status of the system, providing an alarm for every possible malfunction that can happen in the field. K2 FastWave also has a dedicated tool to help the user collect data in grid mode in order to achieve the best results from the survey, mixing longitudinal and transversal scans in the post processing.

The system can be connected to GPS and is able to record the path in real time and mark anomalies. The data is stored in a dedicated folder and is easy to access in the future post processing phase.

GRED HD Post Processing Software


The GRED HD software comes with two viewable interfaces as follows:

Project Explorer
In this section the user can select the project, check the positioning and filtering, and can process the GPR data using several features. This section also includes a layer picking feature for pavement and railway ballast evaluation as well as management for external video sources. The project Explorer is included in GRED basic.
3D viewer
This navigator interface displays the results of data processing and is composed of four windows:
  • Tomography (time slices)
  • Radar scans parallel to the acquisition direction
  • Virtual Radar scans orthogonal to the acquisition direction
  • 3D view

N.B. the 3D viewer is not included in GRED Basic

GRED HD is available in the following four versions:


GRED HD Basic is an easy to use post processing software module, designed to be the entry level package for all the IDS GPR products. This tool offers a 2D viewer and processing with advanced 2D filtering, including:
  • Radarscan viewer, filter and advanced filtering macros, multiple radar scan viewer
  • Layer picking for automatic analysis of sub-layers
  • GPS and map track viewer including X, Y and Z axis and digital map importation
  • Video handling (option)
GRED HD 3D is an advanced module which integrates all the features of the basic package and adds 3D viewer features:
  • Tomographic map view (C-Scan) including radar scan fusion
  • 3D data visualization
  • Advanced targeting using Radarscan and tomographic view
GRED HD 3D CAD provides highly interactive and efficient management of large quantities of data. The results can be transferred to CAD (AutoCAD or Microstation) or GIS either by using an interactive link or at the end of the work session; in the latter case, the GEOMAP module automatically generates the final cartographic output.

Additional functions:
  • CAD, GIS exportation of GPR data and target
  • Synthetic map (only for the Stream family of products)
GRED HD Bridge software is specifically designed to assist the operator in the evaluation of bridge decks , including:
  • Automatic rebar detection
  • Damaged area detection
  • Automatic generation of digital maps (e.g. moisture, asphalt thickness, rebar status maps)
  • 3D tomographic view of rebar meshes

Each ground penetrating radar application has specific requirements, needing dedicated features. IDS offers a complete set of software packages with functions matched to specific applications, as shown in the table below.

SRS Post-Processing Software


SafeRailSystem includes a dedicated post-processing software suite for easy and efficient interpretation of SRS data in order to extract the following characteristics of the railway track:

  • Continuous mapping of ballast thickness
  • Location of areas with insufficient bearing capacity (e.g. ballast pockets)
  • Differentiation between clean and fouled ballast
  • Detection of sections with drainage problems

This software includes advanced automatic "pattern recognition" algorithms which assist the evaluation of ballast status and includes an automatic function for layer interface detection.

The operator can simultaneously view up to 4 parallel radar maps and can view these sections with automatic scrolling. All radar data can be selected in a rapid and efficient way and the user can introduce and analyze drilling information.

SRS-DPA Data Analyzer and Reporting


The data analyzer and reporting module is integrated in the data processing module and has the following functionalities:

  • Layer stratification view for each profile
  • Layer interpretation view for each profile
  • Layer cross-section view
  • Report of layer statistical results for each profile can be output in a text file
  • Data view can be saved as an image file (BMP or JPG format file)
